Privacy policy

This policy covers Upright Building Services and this website. It is written to be read, not to be impenetrable. If anything here is unclear, ring us on 0468 050 266 and ask.

What we collect

When you fill in the quote form we collect your name, phone number, email address, suburb, the type of work you are enquiring about, your rough timeframe and anything you write in the message box.

We also collect some things automatically:

• Standard web analytics: pages viewed, roughly how long for, the device and browser you used, and an approximate location based on your IP address.
• How you arrived, including the search or ad you clicked. If you came from a Google ad, that click carries an identifier we record with your enquiry so we know which ads actually bring in work.

Why we collect it

To quote your job and get back to you. That is the whole purpose of the form. The analytics exist so we know which parts of the site are useful and which advertising is worth paying for.

We do not sell your information, and we do not send marketing to people who have not asked for it.

How we might contact you

If you send an enquiry or ring us, expect a call, a text message or an email in reply. If you ring and we cannot answer because we are on a roof or on site, our system may send you an automatic text so you know we have seen the missed call. After a completed job we may send one message asking for a review. You can tell us to stop at any time and we will.

Who else sees it

We use outside services to run the business, and your information passes through some of them:

• Our customer management system, which stores your enquiry and our correspondence with you.
• Google Analytics and Google Ads, for the website measurement described above.
• Our web and email providers, in the ordinary course of hosting the site and carrying our email.
• Trades, engineers, designers and certifiers working on your job, where they need your details to do their part of it.

Some of these providers store data outside Australia. We only use established providers, but we cannot control where every one of them keeps its servers.

Cookies

This site sets cookies for analytics and advertising measurement. You can block or delete them in your browser settings and the site will still work. We also store the details of how you arrived in your own browser, so that if you come back later and enquire, we still know where you originally found us.

How long we keep it

Enquiries are kept while there is any prospect of doing the work, and for as long afterwards as we need them for our records, our insurer or our warranty obligations. Building records in particular have to be kept for a long time.

Seeing or correcting your information

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to fix something that is wrong, or ask us to delete it. Ring 0468 050 266 or send us a message through the enquiry form. We will not charge you for asking.

If we cannot delete something because we are required to keep it, we will tell you which obligation is stopping us.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, but no website or system is completely secure and we will not pretend otherwise.

Complaints

Raise it with us first, on the number above. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled it, you can take the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will say so on this page.
